Noah's Dogs

I have a question for those fundamentalists who believe that the Bible is the perfect, inerrant word of God who created all of the species of plants and animals during the first six days. It is a question for those who believe that Darwin's theory of evolution is a bogus fraud perpetrated by ungodly scientists. And DNA is fixed for all time by the Creator. And the Bible is truer than science.

Now here is a simple question: How many dogs did Noah take on the ark?

In case you need a hint:

And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. (Genesis 6:19 KJV)

I interpret the word 'sort' to mean 'species', i.e. a population of animals that can breed and produce fertile offspring. All of the dogs in the world, from the chihuahua to the great dane comprise a single species. Although I don't suppose that chihuahua's can mate with great dane's (such a possibility seems to be beyond imagining), I do suppose that chihuahua's can mate with toy poodles, which can mate wiith larger poodles, which can mate with cocker spaniels, and so forth up to the collie which can mate with a great dane. Such a chain of matings inform us that all of these dogs belong to a single species.

Now Noah must take two, and only two, dogs with him on the ark. Which two? Does he take two beagles? Or two airdales? Or two golden retrievers? Or two handsome huskies? Whatever two he picks will become the ancestors of every breed of dog known to man.

After the flood, these two dogs start to breed. So tell me please, how do these two dogs give rise to beagles and bassets, to pointers and setters, to cockers and spaniels? All of these different breeds arise from differences in DNA. So how did the differences in DNA arise? Does DNA change? DNA must change for all of these breeds to exist. And if it is possible for DNA to mutate (change) then evolution is possible -- not just possible, but inevitable.

So if you an evangelical fundamentalist who does not believe in evolution, please explain how all of these dogs can exist. There are large dogs and small dogs. There are long-haired dogs and short-haired dogs. There are black dogs and white dogs and yellow dogs. There are lap dogs and hunting dogs. Please explain how all of these can be descended from a single pair of dogs.

Evolution is the answer!
